2023 AfconQ: Kotoko striker gets maiden Cameroon call-up

Asante Kotoko striker Franck Mbella has received a first Cameroon call-up for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying games in June.

The 20-year-old’s invitation for the games against Kenya and Burundi was confirmed in a letter addressed to him by the Cameroon Football Association.

It means he could make his debut for the Indomitable Lions when they host Kenya on June 4 and play away to Burundi four days later in the first round of the 2023 Afcon qualifiers.

Within the framework of the qualification matches for the “AFCON TOTAL ENERGIES 2023, Ivory Coast, Cameroon’s senior Men’s national Team will play official matches during the Fifa break running from 30th of May to 14 June 2022:

4 June 2022, Cameroon vs Kenya

8 June 2022, Burundi vs Cameroon

In this perspective, a preparatory training camp will be held during the aforementioned Fifa break which runs from 30th May to 14th June.

In view of the above, we hereby inform you that you have been selected to take part in the said meetings. You are kindly requested to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure your presence.

Mbella is leading the top scorer chart in the Ghana Premier League with 19 goals from 24 games he has played for the Porcupine Warriors.

His goals have helped Kotoko maintain a nine-point lead at the top of the league table.
